Brendon, an avid reader himself, was pleased to recently present books to children at Glenmoor Primary School as part of the ‘Books in Homes’ programme. Begun by writer Alan Duff in 1995, the aim of the programme is primarily to provide books for children in bookless homes. ‘Duffy Books in Homes’ as it is often known provides free books three times a year to over 100,000 children. At the end of term 2 is Government book week during which the New Zealand government funds one book per child. MP’s are invited into schools to present these books.
